What’s New On Netflix April 2018?

Netflix has become an unbelievable source of entertainment for millions of Canadians. For the relatively cheap monthly subscription, users have access to countless films and television shows from various years, various genres and various cinematic tastes.

The only real problem with Netflix is deciding what to watch.

Luckily we’ve got a new feature to let you know what new programs will be debuting this month and which ones are worth checking out.

Let’s take a look at what’s new on Netflix April 2018!

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power

Directors: Bonni Cohen, Jon Shenk

Starring Al Gore

A sequel to the highly influential and eye-opening documentary from 2006 documentary. While that first film helped to bring the conversation around global warming to the general public, this follow-up explores the work being done towards an energy revolution.

Come Sunday

Director: Joshua Marston

Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lakeith Stanfield, Jason Segel

A faith devoted and widely loved preacher finds himself ostracized from his church and congregation when he starts preaching that there is no such thing as Hell.


Director: Shekhar Kapur

Starring Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Christopher Eccleston

Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett stars as Queen Elizabeth I in this film detailing the early days of her reign and coming to terms with the many challenges as Queen.

Fried Green Tomotoes

Director: Jon Avnet

Starring Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson

One of the biggest tearjerkers of all times. An unhappy and aimless woman finds happiness after striking up a friendship with an elder woman who shares the stories of her life.

Indiana Jones

Director: Steven Spielberg

Starring Harrison Ford

That’s right, all four adventures from the swashbuckling archeologist/treasure hunter, Indiana Jones. Starting with the amazing and classic Raiders of the Lost Ark and ending with the somewhat lackluster Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, there’s a lot of fun to be had.

Starring Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner

It’s probably a little early to get in the Christmas spirit, but if you’re in the mood for a twisted horror comedy, this might fit the bill. When a bickering and broken family lose the Christmas spirit, an ancient demon descends on them to choose who has been naughty and who has been nice.

Liar, Liar

Director: Tom Shadyac

Starring Jim Carrey, Maura Tierney, Cary Elwes

Jim Carrey puts his considerable comedic talents to work in one of his best comedies. Starring as a dishonest lawyer who can’t keep a promise is magically robbed of his ability to lie.

Lost in Space: Season 1

Creators: Irwin Allen, Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless

Starring Molly Parker, Toby Stephens, Parker Posey

The newest Netflix series remakes the classic sci-fi show from the 1960s. During a space exploration, a family becomes stranded in outer space, struggling to survive.

Loving Vincent

Directors: Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman

Starring Douglas Booth, Jerome Flynn, Robert Gulaczyk

Animated in the oil painting fashion of his famous paintings, a look at the final days, troubling life and impact of artist Vincent van Gogh.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Starring Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle

The many hilarious works of the seminal British comedy troupe, from movies, television shows and live specials, all coming to Netflix.

Pride and Prejudice

Director: Joe Wright

Starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, Donald Sutherland

Another retelling of Jane Austen’s most beloved novel set in the 1800s. Young Elizabeth Bennett is not a typical woman of her time, being strong-willed and independent, despite being told a woman her age needs to marry. Quite unexpectedly, she finds a romance blossoming with a man of a higher class.

Ride Along 1 & 2

Director: Tim Story

Starring Kevin Hart, Ice Cube, Tika Sumpter

Both the first and second films in this buddy action franchise are hitting the Netflix next month. To prove that he is a worthy husband, a mild-mannered security guard must go on a ride along with his future brother-in-law, a tough-as-nails cop.

The Alienist: Season 1

Starring Daniel Brühl, Dakota Fanning, Luke Evans

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Director: Yorgos Lanthimos

Starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Barry Keoghan

A troubled surgeon forms a connection with the son of a patient who died. However, he and his family are put at risk when it is revealed the young boy has dark intentions.

The Florida Project

Director: Sean Baker

Stars: Brooklynn Prince, Bria Vinaite, Willem Dafoe

One of the biggest indie surprises of last year. Set over the summer at a cheap motel which sits nearby Disney World, the film follows a kind and mischievous 6-year-old as she makes new friends and seeks out adventure.

The Nice Guys

Director: Shane Black

Stars: Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice

Set in the 1970s, this hard-boiled crime comedy follows a grizzled enforcer who is forced to team-up with a washed-up detective to solve the case of a missing girl.

The Week Of

Director: Robert Smigel

Stars: Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Steve Buscemi

Two very different families must come together and deal with each other eccentricities as they prepare for their children to marry each other.
