Welcome to Encore, brought to you by BoomersPlus! On this weekly show, hosted by Costas Halavrezos, we examine the world of the baby boomers through a variety of exciting avenues. We are joined each week by an expert guest to discuss their field and how it relates to the audience of the boomers.
Today on Encore, our guest is retired Major General Lewis MacKenzie. Gen. MacKenzie is an author and media commentator whose military career began in 1960 when he enlisted with The Queen’s Own Rifles. He served in what was then West Germany, the Gaza Strip, Cyprus, Egypt, Vietnam and Central America. But perhaps Gen. MacKenzie is best known as Chief of Staff of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in the former Yugoslavia. When the Bosnian War broke out, he assumed command of the Peacekeeping Force which kept the Sarajevo airport open for the arrival of humanitarian aid. His book, Peacekeeper: The Road to Sarajevo, was a bestseller.
