Canadian Golfer Henderson Wins Big

August 17, 2015

The LPGA’s Portland Classic was held over the weekend at Columbia Edgewater gold course. The tournament ended Sunday with Brooke Henderson becoming the latest LPGA champion and the win was significant for a number of reasons. First of all, Henderson is Canadian (born in Smith Falls, Ontario) and her victory marks the first time a Canadian has won on the LPGA Tour since 2001. It’s not often that Canadians steal the spotlight in golf and Henderson’s win is certainly a breakthrough for Canadian’s in the sport. The fact that Henderson ended the open with an eight-stroke lead is also note-worthy as it’s the largest margin of victory in the LPGA Tour in three years. And certainly the fact that Henderson is still a teenager makes all these accomplishments even more impressive. The 17-year-old is now the third youngest LPGA Tour champion in history.

The Globe and Mail has a rundown of Henderson’s outstanding victory and a profile on how she got to this victory. Read more about this young pride of Canada and an extremely talented athlete.
