In an ideal world, we would all be able to travel to new places and have amazing adventures whenever we wanted. Alas, for most of us, real world responsibilities make it so we spend most of our vacation free time at home. However, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on vacation fun. Just make it a staycation. If you are unfamiliar with the concept, staycations are simply vacations at home. So if you aren’t looking to go through the hectic travel plans but still want that vacation feeling time-off, here are some tips for giving yourself the best staycation possible.

Unplug.

Many people would be perfectly content just relaxing on the couch and binge-watching TV on their staycation. But on vacation it’s a nice excuse to take a step back from all the ‘usual’. It can be nice to escape the screens that invest so much of our lives. Take time away from checking emails, taking phone calls and browsing social media. If a movie night is you idea of vacation, then more power to you. But you might be surprised how refreshing it is to unplug for a while.

Treat yourself.

Even though you’re not splurging on a big expensive trip doesn’t mean you can’t spend a little extra to pamper yourself on your staycation. Instead of cooking for yourself and having to do the dishes afterwards, go out for dinner at night. Stay at a local hotel and let the cleaning staff worry about tidying up. Get a bit of luxury without going too far.

Play the tourist

You can live in a city for years and never really enjoy the best aspects of it. Well, a staycation is the perfect time to act like a tourist in your own city. Go to the local tourism information and find out what the must-see restaurants, attractions and festivals are. Not only will thing give you a lot of fun activities for your vacation, it will also give you a new appreciation for the place you live and what it has to offer.

Reconnect with friends

Work is important, but one a downside is how it takes time away from spending time with your loved ones. It can seem like months go by before getting to spend time with your good friends. Of course, a great benefit of the staycation is that you aren’t going anywhere and are therefore free to spend some quality time with your favourite people. It’s one of those simple enjoyments that makes you wonder why you every go on vacation at all.

Try something new

A staycation is a chance to take a break from the routine, it is the perfect time to try something new. No need to do anything that will make you anxious, but it’s just a nice opportunity to do something you’ve always wanted to try. It could be going to a new event, trying a new sport or activity for fun, or even trying a new kind of food. The level of your experimentation is completely up to you but you’ll be happy you made an adventure for yourself.
