Encore: How Military Personnel Transition To Civilian Work

If you’re a member of Canada’s military whose considering retirement, you might be looking around for part-time work as a civilian. But when you list the skills you learned in the military on a resume, will a potential civilian employer understand them? Tony Goode has some tips on translating those skills on to paper and into a job. He retired after 30 years of commissioned service in the Canadian Navy. During that time, he commanded a number of warships, as well as Training Group Pacific, Fourth Destroyer Squadron and Royal Roads Military College. Today, he’s an associate with CFN Consultants, a defense consulting company. He joins us to discuss the challenges facing military personnel making the switch to civilian work, transferring skills and selling your experience to an employer.
