We’re all professionals here and we all seek to put all our effort into our work everyday, but that can be a bigger struggle with some days compared to others. Sometimes when you hit that mid-week marker, finding the energy to get through the rest of the work day is a bit tough. Luckily, there are a number of ways you can battle against the Wednesday funk and finish your week off just a strong as you started it. Have a look at some of the best energy boosting habits you can use.
Eat right.
What you eat has a big effect on your energy levels and if you’re finding your energy zapped by mid-week, you may want to address your current diet. Firstly, a good breakfast is always important and choosing the right food to start your day will have a big impact. Stay away from the heavy and sugary foods like donuts and muffins, or greasy food like bacon, and instead get a good helping of fruits and protein. Also, have a lighter lunch coupled with some healthy snacks throughout the day. This will help keep your energy up while avoiding the overstuffed feeling that can leave you tired in the afternoon.
Get out for a little exercise.
As you might have suspected, taking steps to be healthy is a good way to keep your energy up. So just as eating healthy will benefit you, so too will a bit of exercise. Look into joining a mid-week sports team to get that extra bit of activity, or if you don’t have time for that, just try getting out for a daily walk. These little ways of finding exercise can do a lot to lift you from that funk.
Hydrate.
Even when you’re just sitting at your desk typing away, it’s important to stay hydrated. Not only is getting your daily serving of water good for your overall health, it’s a good way to keep your energy up. You might think there isn’t much risk to getting dehydrated at work, but you’d be surprised how much energy drains when you don’t get enough water. Keep a bottle of water at your desk and don’t be shy about taking a drink.
Change up your routine.
Having a solid routine in your work day is a great way to stay productive and staying organized. However, sometimes the same old routine can keep you in a stagnant. Therefore, there’s no reason you can’t switch up the routine when you hit that mid-week hump in order to keep things fresh. Schedule more taxing or dull work for the morning, giving yourself a bit of an easier end of the day.
Get meetings done early.
Similar to the above point, work meetings can really suck your energy away. That’s not to say they are not useful, and in many cases they are essential, but oftentimes they take you away from your desk for a long time and stall your work progress. If possible, schedule meetings for earlier in the week and focus on the work later in the week.
Make weekend plans.
Of course, you can keep your energy up just as well outside of work and if you find your work week dragging a little too long, there’s nothing wrong with fantasizing about your next escape. Once you leave work, you can start thinking about your weekend completely guilt-free. Make plans, look forward to the fun and let your mind focus on something a little more fun than your work.
