Canada is a beautiful country at anytime of the year (though the Winter could be a bit shorter), but it’s not hard to see why the Fall is some Canadians’ favourite season. We’re an outdoor type of country and while the temperatures may be a bit cooler in the Fall months, there’s still hiking, camping and road trips to enjoy. And of course, our nation’s beauty is also highlighted in these months. The Fall colours are quite a sight to see and you owe it to yourself as a Canadian to visit some of the best spots in the country to see the foliage.
Algonquin Provincial Park, ONT
This provincial park is a Canadian beauty plain and simple, but Fall is really the time to explore it. the whole place seems to come alive with the colours of the season and with all the amazing, leafy trees, the scenery is next to none. While there you can camp if the weather permits, but just be sure give yourself time to canoe around the area to really get the whole experience.
Laurentian Mountains, QUE.
This must-visit mountainous location offers a feast for the eyes thanks to the variety of beautiful trees in the area. From the birch trees to the maple, they provide a real beautiful sight that you will feel lucky to have seen with your own eyes if you give yourself that chance.
Niagra area, ONT
While you might think that the falls are the big attraction all year-round, there’s plenty of other areas in the Niagra region that shine in the autumn. Take a long drive through the Niagara Parkway and marvel at the beautiful foliage. Or just enjoy the sights around Niagra-on-the-sea while stopping in at the area’s great wineries.
Prince Edward Island
Yes, the whole island. This time of year you’d be hard pressed not to find a part of the province that isn’t bright with Fall colours. What’s special about PEI in the Fall is that you get to experience a number of beautiful scenes of the season from inland fields to coastal cliffs. For a special autumn tour, take a drive down the Central Coastal Drive.
Thornbury, ONT.
This is quite a breathtaking location to witness for anyone, but it’s an especially nice treat for bike-lovers. There are some amazing trails to go on your self-guided bike tours in which you can explore the impressive Fall scene. The area is also known for its annual apple harvest which you’ll want to be sure to check out as well.
