The must-have items for making your long flight a little easier.
Long flights can be really uncomfortable. But don’t let that ruin your travel plans. With the right planning, even the longest plane rides can be fine. This includes packing the right things to ensure your comfort, entertainment and overall enjoyment throughout your long trip. Have a look at some essentials items you should take on your next long flight.
Water bottle.
Yes, you need to abandon your water bottles at the security checkpoint in airports now. However, it’s a smart idea to ensure you have your own water supply for your flight. Bring an empty bottle or purchase one once through security. You’ll be happy to have a way to stay hydrated without waiting on the in-flight service.
Entertainment.
Long plane rides are all about killing time. To help with this, be sure to pack a laptop or tablet in your carry-on and load it up with some good movies or television shows. Fill your phone with music, podcasts and audiobooks. It’s a great way to distract yourself for a few hours.
Comfy clothes.
You need to dress sensibly when you travel, but also have your own comfort in mind when choosing your travel outfit. From your shoes, to your pants, to your jacket – be sure they allow you to sit comfortably for hours on end and allow you to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Writing material.
Want to be productive while stuck on a plane? Take a pad and pen on your next flight. You can make a to-do list, plan out your trip, get some work done or just write for pleasure. It can be a great distraction that might actually accomplish something.
Headphones.
Your flight will likely offer headphones for in-flight entertainment, but don’t rely on that. Pack your own pair so you can listen or watch whatever you want whenever you want.
Charger.
Whichever electronics you’re bringing along on your flight, be sure you’re packing a charger for them as well. Of course, you’ll want to charge them as much as possible before hand as an outlet on the plan is not guaranteed, but for those long flights, it’s not likely a typical battery will last the whole way. Always have a back-up plan.
Ear plugs.
Sometimes the best thing you can do on a plane is escape. Ear plugs are a must to achieve that. Put them in and close your eyes. It might not make you forget you’re on a plane for the next few hours, but it can help ease your mind about the experience overall.
Toiletries.
Again, taking liquids through security is rather restrictive these days, but there are still some toiletry items that can give you comfort on the plane. Face-wash, toothbrush and toothpaste and some deodorant can help you feel fresher when you arrive at your destination.
Necessary medication.
Always be sure to keep any medication that might be needed quickly on hand during your flight. Sometimes you can feel it’s easier to pack this away in your checked luggage. But if you suddenly need your medication, you’ll be happy it’s easily accessible.
Hand sanitizer.
Planes are not always the cleanest environments to be in. The last thing you want is to catch a cold on the plane travelling to your vacation destination. Bring along a small bottle of hand sanitizer to help keep you germ-free on your flight.
