5 Tips For Finding The Right Hotel When You Travel

March 13, 2018

When planning a trip, few things can make or break the travel experience as much as your accommodations. Regardless of your reason for travelling – business, vacation, event—finding the right hotel is a major consideration.  So how do you know you are making the right choice? What sort of considerations must be made before booking your room? Let’s take a look at how you can ensure you’ve picked the best possible hotel for your next trip.

Rank your most important components.

There are a number of factors to consider when selecting a hotel, but the importance of those factors depends entirely on your own preferences. For some, location is everything. For others, it’s the price they consider most important. For others, they look at the hotel’s amenities. In order to find the hotel that best fits your needs and desires, make a list of the various hotel components then rank them from most important to least. You can then use this as an evaluation tool for all the hotels you are considering and finding the one that is best inline with your specific preferences.

Consult a map.

Regardless of whether location is the most important factor to you when selecting a hotel, it is nonetheless one you sound really consider before booking. If you’re going to be doing the whole tourist routine on your trip, you want to find an area close to the hottest attractions, or at the very least, close to transportation. If you’re travelling for business, is the hotel close to your meeting place? And then there’s the consideration of whether or not the area of the city is safe. Do some research into the location of your potential hotel to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Trust reviews over price.

It’s always a good idea to work out your budget before your travels, which could also be a big help when trying to find the right hotel. Certainly, you want to look for accommodations that are affordable, but searching out the lowest price is not the best strategy. If you’re finding places to stay right downtown with a price that seems too good to be true, chances are that it is too good to be true. When you think you’ve found a deal, always consult the reviews for an honest representation of the hotel. If the majority of people are saying the hotel is not worth saving its low price, you’re probably better off spending a little more for some better-quality accommodations.

Consider necessary amenities.

Usually, the things that are offered during your stay at a hotel are rather inconsequential. Few travellers decide on their hotel based on how much they charge for the mini bar or how late the pool is open. However, there are certain considerations for these amenities depending on your purpose of travel. For instance, if I have meetings or an event to attend during my trip, I look to see that the hotel provides an iron in their rooms. It’s a small thing but it makes a pretty substantial difference. Other consideration might be the business centre, Wi-Fi availability, or how accessible the rooms are. If these or other amenities are concerns to you, factor that into your search.

Ask for recommendations.

As always, it’s best to get a second opinion, especially if it’s coming from a trusted source. Recruit your friends and family with any recommendations they might have. Perhaps they’ve travelled to the same city and can clue you into the perfect accommodations. This method is usually where you find those hidden gems that don’t come up during a normal search. If your personal contacts can’t help you out, look for online discussions for some more feedback. Lots of people online are willing to share their travel tips which can help you perfect your own trip.
